So Ive decided that when my Velied Chameleon is older im going to get him a 260 gallon (30x30x72) felexarium to live in.

Ive been thinking about ways to provide heat and UV, and thought that because that is such a large enclosure I could try using a powersun UV and heat lamp.

But because ive never used these before I dont know how hot they get...they come in two wattages 100 and 160. Any idea what one would be best to use? I was worrying about usnig a normal spot lamp over the flexarium incase it melted it, im even more worried about these...but im sure I read somewhere that they are cooler than a normal spot lamp of equal wattage?

So if anyone has used this lamp with the flexarium and has any advice to offer that would be great.

James

I bought a powersun UV lamp for my 'beardy' viv (Which i didnt even get beardies) I put this in a 4ft viv (wooden) But it got that hot, it almost burnt my wood.

I don't know about flexarium's But i no they get extremely hot. I would imagine a standard spot light would be best. But wait for other chamelion experts. All i know is that it got to hot and i got a refund for 50 back ^^

I have some flexi vivs. I use a dome and tight beam spotlamp exo terra for heat 150 watt as bulbs last longer when connected to dimmer stat.

For a yemen a reptisun 10 uv tube is good. To mount the dome and bulb i just lay two small planks of wood across the top of the flexarium and rest the edges of the spot dome on the edges of wood, not burnt nowt yet. As for uv tube add reflector and just lay across top of viv again, no fires yet! or mount inside top of flaxarium via cable ties or similar.

I am not a fan of powersuns at all. But thats just the way I do things. Good luck keep us posted!

Ok, maybe I will go back to my original idea and use a seperate uv tube and heat lamp.

Would the UV tube be ok inside the flexarium heat wise? Should I make sure he couldnt touch it? Or would it be ok since they get too hot anyway?

I allways try to mount mine inside viv if i can, yes just ensure tube is not close to cham, saying that mine have never burnt themselves on a uv tube but i allways mount spots etc external to the viv.

Hi James,
If it helps have a look at the pic I posted here:
http://www.captivebred.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7012
The uv and reflector just rest on the frame of the flexi so dont touch the mesh and we use similar lighting to Rick suggestion - inside the domes white tight beam spot on the right with the infra red lamp on the left. they hand about 2 or 3 cm above the meshsuspended on a home made frame made of steel pole offcuts - but wood or anything stiff would do to make a frame.
If you want some close up pics pm me
Good luck

Ruth
