|
|
Hey guys,
I'm going to import some royal morphs in to the UK. I've found a reputable breeder in US and have been doing my research on them (obtaining references and ensuring the animals are raised on F/T [as in many parts of US they feed live, which means probable feeding trouble when arrives in UK]).
It's my first time so just need a little help and advice about the whole process. I realize it can take 4 months or so to obtain CITIES paperwork in the US, and the breeder will ensure the animals arrive in good health. Couple of Questions?
A - Do I need to apply for a wildlife import document?
B - What happens when I pick the animals up from the airport?
C - Anything else I should be prepared for?
Any advice would be great.

A - Do I need to apply for a wildlife import document? NO but you do need CITES import permits, these can ONLY be obtained after you have a copy of the CITES export permits (which can take up to 9months)
B - What happens when I pick the animals up from the airport? Depends how much work you want a clearing agent to do or how much you want to do yourself, either way you'll be tied up at the airport for ages...that's if everything goes smoothly.
C - Anything else I should be prepared for? being ripped off, being disappointed with the animals, large VAT and import bill.
Some of the nightmares I've heard from others who have imported range from all snakes arriving DEAD, after autopsy it was discovered that they had been frozen, the breeder had sent DEAD snakes, they had not died in transit. Others have bought that seasons babies, waited for 8 months for arrival only to then receive the babies from the following season (which were obviously alot smaller and worth a lot less than paid).
Some of these stories DID involve well know USA breeders.
Overall importing is exciting and very nerve wrecking, you can do well and end up with great animals at good prices but so much can go wrong that unless your order is large enough and from someone you trust 100% it's not normally worth the risk. As others have said there are plenty of other ways of getting great snakes at good prices without having to worry about importing _________________

Ive just taken a look through the sites listed above that I didnt know of.
Whats the reasoning behind not advertising a price. Not many sites seem to post the prices up.
Also a cpl of those sites also never ever have any snakes listed as available.
I dont think anyone comes close to Darren when it comes to advertising and trying to sell your product ( uk ). He does have a very good website.
Another one that I like is royalpythonmorphs, available snakes listed and the prices posted up too.
Helpful when you have a wishlist of female pastel, spider pair and albino pair And sitting on £12000 worth of motorbikes racing bikes and set up for sale...........i will find my snakes
Dazzlah for nice and cheap royals.........get a green card
Enjoy the the sun everyone ! _________________ royals

Ye ok ill agree with most of that except for the fluctuating prices bit. Royal prices are hardly stock exchange and prices do hold steady enough from quarterly to quarterly.
Ok from one year to another there is normally a change in prices but by no way often enough not to list a price on that reason alone.
I have bought from three of your main dealer list and yes an e-mail and telephone call secured the information that I needed to buy the snake that I wanted.
Other than to sell each snake at a different price from one Joe Bloggs to the next I ( not being a breeder or seller of royals ) dont see why sites cannot update their snake prices.
Surely the available stock which these breeders are advertising change far more frequently than the value of their snakes? _________________ royals

B. You pick them up, sign for them, pay 12% import tax, and 17.5% VAT
C. If it was easy or cheap to do then everyone would be doing it. Don't bother.
If you want animals from a breeder in America, wait till they go to the Hamm show in Germany, then drive over and pick them up. No Cites, no tax, no paperwork. |
Hi,
That's a bit confusing.
I spent about 2 hours getting bounced from one place to another last week trying to find out about possible charges importing from America and was told there was no import tax only 17.5% vat and that , while I needed the cites import (£10 commercial £5 personal) no one told me I would need the export one first.
I was thinking of buying a lesser (or pastel lesser) from Adam at 8ballpythons.com.
Can anyone recommend a good source of them over here and maybe give me an idea of current pricing ( roughly)? Even with the delivery and vat it still looked as though it was going to work out about £800 cheaper than the prices I could see on the web sites.

I certainly wouldn't recommend shipping one or two snakes the cost of freight and clearing charges whould make them much more expensive than the $ price, plus you need 100% trust in the seller in the USA to actually send you good snakes as there is NOTHING you can do if you get rubbish once shipped from the USA
I will have lessers available, CPR will probably have lesser pastels, just search around and I'm sure you find what you want. _________________
