|
|
Just a couple of quick vids of my male and female at dinner time! There appetite really picks up as it gets warmer. Each of them keeps eating after the vids stop. They are fed everyday and occasionally every other. Sorry about the poor quality they were done on my mobile.
Enjoy!

that's amazing how much the feed.
but what i find even more impressing is how chilled the are with food around.
the 2 monitors i kept and the one 1 got now are the exact opposite.
how do you do this isit the specie it self or what.

Martin: As long as your temps are OK i would feed her as much as she will eat! A growing active monitor will not become obese. O and stick to whole food items, chicken breast contains protein and not much else.
They can eat about 4 weaner rats and 8-10 chicks each before they show no interest.
I was very fortunate with the enclosure. I'm an electrical engineer and my brother is a joiner, so all of the materials were at trade prices or free. It took about 2 days to do the enclosure and another day to shovel the 4 ton of substrate in! The whole thing only cost me about £300.
Predator: Albigs do not seem to have the same violent feeding response that you get with Australian and Asian Varanids. They are fed everyday as well so the are not really "that" hungry.

how do you provide their heat for an enclosure that size ,do you use a ceramic heater that gives of a gradient temp and then provide spot bulbs for a basking spot ?
ive seen some ceramic heaters in my local rep shop they were about £120 i need some ideas for when my girl goes in to her outdoor enclosure |

Predator: My argus is the same, i just throw them in and he tears them to pieces! I would never attempt to feed him the way i feed my albigs, I'm far to attached to my fingers!
Martin: The enclosure is heated with a 150w and 250w ceramic heat emitter that are on stats 24/7. They usually only switch on at night as the basking bulbs provide enough heat throughout the day. There are two basking spots, one with 5 60w par 38s in a tight row and one with a 150w infra red (soon to be changed to another bank of par 38s. £120 for a ceramic is extortionate! Mine cost £10 (almost trade price) but most exotic pet shops should stock them for about £18-20.
