Some of you may have already seen these pics But no reson not to show them off here as well
Here are apics of some of my Irian Jaya x jungle jag sibs. Must say they very much resemble the IJ parent at this point, although the colors are a bit different. Almost all have a complete stripe over their back. It'll be fun to see how they develop. I'm expecting lots of yellow
Jags will be in another post |

very nice Ron, how long before you think the bright yellow colours will really show through? _________________

I expect the sibs to show nice colour in about 4-6 months, but they should continue to improve until the age of 2. It all depends on how they develop, IJs and jungle don't develop the same way. Both improve in colour, but they IJs go through more of a colour change as they age. |

do they 'peak' in colour and then dull down again with age or hold their colour throughout adult life? _________________

All carpets dull down as they age, but some more than others. IJs will be at their most yellow around the age of 2-3 and then the yellow will dull down, but they can remain quite red. Jungles usually also get darker as they age, you get more black inthe yellow etc. But in both cases you can also have spectacular 6-8 year old animals. No guarantees, only hedging your bets by picking from good bloodlines.
Here's a pic of my IJ female, dam of this clutch, at the age of 7 and very gravid, so at her darkest. Not a bad animal I would say. |
