Right, I have just introduced my male and female leopard geckos, and quickly took them back out. Purely, due to the ferocity between them. I'll describe what happened:-

The male approached female, with his tail shaking, he went very rigid and started moving "like peter crouch - doing the robot", then bit her tail and started trying what I would class as mounting her. This is when I got worried, as the female never "bent over and took it" she bit him back.. Is this normal? Should I let it continue, or was I right to separate them?

Thanks for any help.

Bryan.. Sad

The same is happening with my leopard geckos at the moment. I too introduce a female into the males enclosure and the same happens. Someone suggested to try putting the male in the females enclosure for a week or so, but they still did not mate. Rather annoying as when I bred them a while ago, I always intorduced a female to the male, and he mated with the female immediately every time.. That was with different and more 'experienced' leopard geckos, the geckos I am trying to breed now have never bred before, which is the only difference. All of them are at the correct age and weight now though, so I'm confused. The females not being receptive seem to be the problem Sad

Some people say at 18 months, although most are sexually mature around the 10-12 month mark. Others say when they are up to size and weight, which is probably the best indicator (eg 40-50g). Being at a good breeding weight is important with females.

Anyway, I have just cleaned and re-arranged my males enclosure to try and achieve a 'neutral' territory, and intorduced a female. Hopefully it might make a difference.

LEt me know how you get on Cleef, as I am really interested. The female I have was once living in beside the male and they "grew up together" so to speak, but then she escaped and was gone for a long time. And that was the first time I tried her back in her old vivarium.

I might just wait on her getting to her correct breeding weight and then try again. Crying or Very sad

this happened with me every time my male was introduced with females he tried it on n they attacked him i just left him in there and in 2 days they are cuddling up together. i had eggs and hatchlings off them also. so id say just leave them to it the male will get the picture and try later when the females are more receptive but obviously if the males getting beaten to death take him out Laughing

Thanks stu, I will try that at a later date. I am going to get a few females together, makes sure they are all breeding weight and then put them in with him.
