Hi all, i'm so pleased, because today arrived a little parcel containing my newest member of my growing collection.

I now have a Chinese Mantis! They really are fascinating insects. Feeding it Aphids made me happy! Very Happy

I would post a picture but its a bit on the small side and I think i'll have a little difficulty getting a decent pic, but i'll try. Wink

Do any of you keep Mantids? What type? Can anyone recomend a Mantis they keep thats a little unusual? Can you post a picture of it? I'd really like to expand my invert collection so please recomend away!

I will get a pic up of the little fella, just need to borrow a better camera! From what I can gather they are quite easy to breed, just allowing the adult male into the adult females enclosure is enough to get them breeding.

Of course a good feed up is advised (I wouldn't want the female eating the male) and nature should take its course then just remove the male from the tank!

I can't help watching it at the moment, its truely fascinating, the way its little head move when its following its prey. even the way in which it eats (chomping on the preys behind as its still struggling to get away). They really are little aliens on earth, I highly recomend them to anyone, and yes they are adictive. I'm already planning what i'll get next! Wink

My orchid is tiny. They behave completely differently from the chinese mantids. They sort of shake like a leaf in the breeze Very Happy You should definitely get one!

They are just great to watch when they hunt and follow their food around with their eyes.

I'll deffinatly get an Orchid mantis at some point. I would like to see how I get on with this one first. But so far its just so easy to fall in love with the little guys. Laughing
