hey, well theres plenty of actual viv builders out there, alot of them are quite good value for money and can also send you it flatpacked, if your going to DIY it, id start with just trying yourself with a basic viv, just one, see how u go, if it goes well, try a double or triple stacked one, then just go from there, theres so many ways of doing it, its just what suits you, _________________ [3.2.6 R.Ciliatus|1.4.7 R.Auriculatus

Thanks

by what i can see in that pic, yeh he has single lighting, it all depends on the requirements of the animal, what you hoping to be putting in it?? _________________ [3.2.6 R.Ciliatus|1.4.7 R.Auriculatus

put one big UV in each level and make sure that you can change it by tanking it out the back of the Viv and siding the new one in _________________

where to start
- why not ask who ever built that viv in the first place coz i'm pretty sure i remember seeing it on a different forum post
- you can buy the melamin coated chipboard from B+Q and they will even cut it for you, First plan what size you want the viv and compare it to the sizes of melamin available - I tend to use 3 pieces of melamin and 1 piece of chipboard/plywood for each viv
1st large piece of melamin - top and 1 side
2nd large piece of melamin - bottom and 1 side
3rd long but skinny piece of melamin - lips for glass runners
(PM me if you need more details and i'll try to dig out my plans)
you have to be careful when building a stack as you need to consider heat transfer between the vivs.
The vivs I have stacked up I built as individuals and then put the top one on small (2-3cm high) castors as legs so that there is an airflow between the two vivs and the ceramic in the bottom viv does not heat the floor of the top viv too much

you dont need to be able to take the back off to replace a UV strip bulb as you can just clip it in and out of those little bulb holder clip thingys (thats the technical name for them of course!) _________________ 0.1.0 Royal Python - Wednesday - CB04

it's not that difficult to start. Draw an idea of what you want it to look like. Then decide how big you want it and get the wood from B&Q / Homebase etc, they'll cut it too. Then just build a box as a frame.
you go from this
to this
to this
leaving you with a box. Then you just need to mark where you want the shelves, screw in some fixing blocks, stand it up, put the shelves on, screw them into the fixing blocks. Add the wood where the runners are going to go and you end up with this.
then you just need to put the partitions in for each section (cut the wood to the right size, pop it in and attach fixing blocks) and put in lighting and glass.. oh and a back comes in useful too |

you need to be able to take it out for when you need to change it _________________

Thank you all soooo much .... :--))
It will go into my study , which is hot all the time and houses most of my animals at the moment ... the only problem is that it has no natural light in there (no windows).
So lighting will be needed .....
I really want to build this quite soon .... I have a 4ft by 3ft by 3ft viv in there at the moment , and a 4ft by 2ft by 2ft , so might be able to do something with them (like making them part of this project ...)
Thoughts .........
