Hello "reptilefans" yemens normally do very well,i would recommend (zoomed all the way) a repti-sun 5.0,and a small low wattage heat source, temps of 73 will be fine for yems also no night time heating is required (25watt) i would recommed you keep them in small groups and split them up as they grow,Humidity is not a really big factor in keeping yemen chameleons 2 mistings a day will be fine for the babies requirements(allow the viv to dry out completely before misting again to prevent respirtiory infections) the number one killer of baby chameleons is dirtyness so keep the vivs very clean and you should have no trouble raising the little ones |

Gary,
There are plenty of other forums out there that are great for those types of posts....this forum ISN'T one of them.
We encourage EVERYONE to ask ANYTHING, irrelevant of whether some else on here feels they 'should' already know the answer.
Please bear that in mind before jumping on threads

First apologies, the intention was not to wind anyone up, merely to get some information from the experts. The kind of response I received initially, to a new comer reading the threads, would no doubt put them off asking, basic questions which would be a shame. I have always found this forum extremely friendly and informative.
Please be assured I had already researched from a number of sources and spoken to a few people, all of which had conflicting information. All this information had been gathered over the past few months. Only now and to save any further confusion I thought I would address the grey area's. Thanks to you all for you knowledge and information which is gratefully received.
I have been keeping reptiles/amphibians on and off for a number of years now, starting as a youngster, grass snakes, Slow worms, newts frogs etc. I can remember when it was safe to pick up a great crested newt and tortoises only cost a fiver in your local pet shop. Still got my one, had him for 35 year now. When you get the bug you never loose it.
I currently have a large number of animals of all descriptions, either furry, slimy or scaly, all of which are well looked after and requirements known. it's just that with regards the Yemen's it was hard to find out a definitive answer, until now.
Once again thanks for the information, I will go and get the tube tomorrow. |
