i can only discribe it as a hair lip so you can get an idea as i can't post pic no camera the nosterals are on the lip with no space so they look like arches not circles shes eating but does not screech at me like the others any one else seen this poor thing was born on friday 13th her clutch mate is fine.

never seen it in the lizard world before but it might just be that the roof of the mouth has not developed properly. The palette normally developes as two halves and then joins to form the normal palette structure and front part of the upper jaw and nasal cavity.

This will mean that the upper jaw of your Leo will be very soft and not a rigid structure like normal, and the palette will still be in two halves with a slight gap inbetween. It doesn't normally affect eating so much but I would be careful of the respiratory openings of the mouth and nose of your leo. It's just a guess but you may find that mucass might built up around that area as it may not come away as it should normally. As the Leo gets older you could get an x-ray to see how its developeing, I would just make sure that the little guys calcium intake is good to allow the palette to harden enough for it not to become a problem in the future.

Good luck with the little guy/gal, are you going to keep him/her? Wink

thanks paulk i think hair lip may not be the correct discripsion i'll try to discrbe it to you picture a geckos face were the mouth is bottom jaw top jaw then gap before nostriles were as this one seem to have the nostrils cut out of its lip no gap with both nostrils (sorry spelling)so their half circles not full. hope this nakes sence.
oh and i'm going to keep her how could i let her go see is doing fine growing and eating she is smaller then her clutch mate bless her.

Thanks for the extra info, well maybe its not a hair lip then, just a sad deformaty. I'm sure shes breathing ok with no wheezing, might be something to look out for in the future. Did she hatch ok? (just thought she may have injured herself when hatchin).

It'll be good to see some pics of the wee girl! I'm glad your keeping her, I would. I'm looking forward to my beardie eggs hatching hopefully at the end of may. I've only 3 eggs left now! Crying or Very sad

Still looking forward to them none the less. Very Happy

Well normally they hatch at around 60 days, but could be up to as much as 70-80 days! So i'm guessing yours should hatch early june. Mine are at the same temp. Would really like to get into Gecko keeping the more I see them the more I have the urge to buy some!

Do you have leopard geckos? How do you find them to look after/breed etc?

It was my girls first clutch and many of the eggs were laid as flat slugs thats why i've only got a few left, but its a great experience!
