I've had him since Feb and have never had a chance to take a pic so i thought id grab him while he was sniffing on the floor, he wasn't as scatty
as i thought he would be Ive only had him out a few times. Also if anyone can see his nostrils does it look like crusty mucus?(top pic) i asked on here before because i was worried, I've noticed he breaths strangely sometimes
like blocked nostrils, i was ad viced to take him to the vet so did and was told he was fine? but have just noticed in this pic his nostril, it only seems to be one of them.
Anyone suggest a good vet in the south ?
Thanks

Its7ft tall X 5ft wide x 3 ft deep Viv, I've got a 100watt UV heat which is
creating a basking heat of 120f and a standard bulb lower down which
is 40f, a heat Matt on the far side that's only on at night a large tray of water on the floor, i don't often see him out of his hide but am sure he comes out,but when i first got him he was out most of the time, but I'm
sure he was making the breathing sounds back then. The other thing i have noticed is that i haven't seen him eating insects of late and he wont take them from me but he will eat mice and chicks all day if i let him?
Hes shedding and going to toilet normally and seems very bright and alert
when i inspect him, i don't know if (apart from the breathing)this is normal
behavior?
Thanks

it sounds like pretty normal behavior otherwise. roughneck monitors do like to dig a lot as well so make sure he has at least somewhat deep substrate.

have you tried simply wiping his nose off at all?

also what is the enclosure humidity like?

I did try and wipe his nose with a moist Cotton bud and it did seem to soften if but he kept moving his head. I'm not sure what the humidity is %
wise i need a test gun, but without misting the air feels quite damp,
but Ive not misted in there heavily for a few days as i had been told
the damp/wet wont help if he has a illness, i didn't know they like to dig,
Ive got the substrate nearly 1ft deep but its only orchid bark and leaves,
would a mix of soil added be better?
cheers

sterilized potting soil might do it some good. but only as far as keeping itself entertained goes.

i would keep on top of wiping away anything you might find collecting around its nose.

this will help the problem.

what else did the vet advise you to do or not to do?

He didnt really tell me anything,he did give a sample pot to sent some of his poo off in but untill about three days ago hes been useing his water tray as a toilet so ive taken it out and shall send off the next lot. As i said
he didnt really say much he said something about the more he tastes the air with his tounge the better? but he told me he was fine. I think he was looking for respiratory disorders but the lizard wouldnt make the breathing noises ive hered him do and when i told him about them he didnt seem to notice, he put a lolly stick in his mouth and let the lizard grip it in his jaws and just held him for about 1 min staring at him, im know vet but it didnt really tell him anything, could it? I was recomended to go to him by my local rep shop but that was years ago for a cham,
i supose he must have knowledge on most reptiles.
thanks
