hi, im currently a dreaded newbie Confused Anyhow i have questions on behalf of my son who is very interested in the study of herpetology. He is thirteen, has turned his bedroom into a small reptile only space and is highly involved in knowing all he can about them. So,where next? How would he progress into full study of this? What kind of qualifications does a full herpetologist require? (Apologies if this sounds dumb btw!!Smile )

hi,
Welcome to the forum.

Biology for starters. I guess it all depends what he actually wants to acheive though? A herp vet? zoo? scientific study? Conservation?

Once he decides which field etc, people may be able to offer some more helpful info.

Good luck.

At university any progressive further studying in Biological Sciences, whether it be in Biology, Ecology or Zoology, will be useful. Unfortunately in todays world knowledge stands for less without some credentials, so your son will find it harder to progress to specialise in herpetology without at least having a degree, PhD studies after are often preferred. Best of luck and welcome to the forum Cool

James
