Ill start with good news. Over the Easter weekend i observed lots of breeding between my largest female (Munch) and my male albig (Taz). Over the following weeks she began to swell and start to dig some test burrows. On Friday night she lay 23 eggs (20 OK 3 bad.) This was her first ever clutch and my first clutch of monitor eggs! The eggs are now sat in an incubator at 30C 1:1 vermiculite/water mix.
Now the sad part. Today i found Munch dead. She was extremely thin, sunken eyes, mouth wide open and a swollen abdomen. She also had what appeared to be yolk leaking from her vent. I believe she had retained some of the eggs from Friday night, what i don't know is why. She seemed happy with nest site, and appeared to have completed laying her clutch. I did find one stray egg on the Saturday that she had laid on the surface.
This whole experience has really left me devastated. I know there are many people here who have experienced similar events with breeding monitors. I just hope i can succeed in hatching her eggs, at least this way her legacy will be continued.
R.I.P Munch, you will be greatly missed.

Sorry about that Rick .. my female argus died in almost exact fashion - 3 weeks after laying a clutch of eggs - unfortunately I only got one good one.
