Hi,
My new Leo has been eating really well all week, and is putting weight on, you can see his tail fattening up. I fed him Friday evening and he again ate loads. Yesterday I noticed he was in and out of his moist hide, and when i fed him, he only ate 2 Crix, then went to his hide.

He looks like he is about to shed, his skin seesm to have gone a milky kinda colour. How can i tell if he is about to shed? Do they lose their appetite slightly before a shed?

Also I am going to change his substrate tomorrow, to tiles. Is it better to put the heat mat under the viv (its and exo terra glass terrarium) or under the tiles?

Cheers

Yes it sounds like he is about to shed because of the milky colour you describe, he will resume feeding once he has shed.
The exoterra i use with heat pads i have them under the tanks. Smile

Cool, thanks for the reply, I am going to put polystyrene on the cabinet and then the heat pad on top of that. Or should I tape the heat pad to the bottom?

What substrate do u use in yours?

On the Exo's i have a 4 inch heat strip just laying under the tanks, not fixed in anyway.
The good thing about the Exos is there base has like plastic legs so the weight of the tank isnt on the pad so you can slide the heat stip in or out without moving the tank. Smile

If its an adult tell those that are giving you grief that they are scare mongers! Or tell them to tell me and all the people who have had leo's for years on sand that were doing it wrong Wink
