I will hopefully be purchasing some of these great creatures soon as I now have some space available. Iwas wondering if anybody out there could recomend some types of millipead that they have as pets!
And how are they for breeding? _________________ Beardies are the way!

I have a giant African train millipede and I did have a Tanzanian red leg, they are quite characters and eat like little horses as for breeding I haven't a clue |

I have a few various species of pede. The giant African train Gigas are good . Some of my pedes have bred I have posted pics somewhere. best tip keep the substrate nice and damp all the time. Also never change it as the baby pedes can be all over the place in it and may not be seen. Some pedes lay eggs in their pooh, some lay them deep down in the substrate.
Lovely and fascinating creatures to keep.
The gigas baby pedes can live in the substrate for years before you even see them if my memory serves me correctly.
Their reproductive behaviour is really interesting the male carries sperm packets up and along his legs to pass to the female the actual mating is conducted at just below head level and they intertwine. I have witnessed this many times with my gigas, quite a way back are some pics of them mating. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

they are quite active and I have mine in a 10 gallon tank, they eat alot I feed mine mostly lettuce and put a cuttle fish bone in there as they need a calcium supplement, the downside of them eating alot of vegetables is they can make quite a mess so be careful when you hold them, mine seems to be either eating or sleeping, she is quite tame now and will unwrap as soon as I pick her up where as when I first got her she would just stay curled up. |
