Thank you both. The misting system did not take long, total hours put in about 5. Some bits were fiddly to do plus thinking time
What did take a lot of time was the research; various websearches, phone calls, and talking to others who have various misting set ups etc. In the end I went for quick and simple and cost effective. It can all easily be altered if required. See how it goes in the long term.
I may add an inlet valve and ball cock system to the header tank so I never have to fill it up manually, but thats a once a week job with the garden hose so no big deal and if the ballcock breaks and I am not about then its a flooded herp room, unless i make a hole in the wall and add an overflow pipe. Is it worth the aggravation? Also may add to the inlet system an RO sytem. But all of that is not necessary see how I feel. Probably wont be arsed to go to that sort of detail. Plus I have a simple filter on the header tank pump unit feed tube, and the water is clean and will have released its nasty gases after sitting in the tank for a while.
God I think I need to go and buy an anorak I am getting excited about misting systems _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

No its not cycled around due to potential contamination from viv to viv. its purpose is to collect the run off water that drains from the vivs. Also to help increase humidity levels by having static water in the guttering. The guttering has stop ends at the end of each run, to prevent water spillage. Any excess in the guttering I will just vax up as required. Saves having a run of tank and saves reusing and filtering dirty water from the vivs. As before its a basic system but it does what I need of it. |
ah i see... got to explain things to me like you would your nan. Well seems like a good system then rick, carry on |

The only way I could explain anything to my Nan is via a ouija board That was in poor taste I do apologise, if this is understood please knock once for yes .......... _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

I have in total 47 nozzles servicing 47 vivs. The pumps are small units and can run up to approx 20 nozzles each unit. I am running three small pumps as this then allows me to ensure a good flow and spray rate. Also due to different speices requirements I can run the 3 pumps off 3 timers hence allowing for different spray durations and intervals, species specific. This suits the chams needs best as opposed to having one large pump unit that has to be set to spray all vivs the same. The three pumps all share the same header tank (84ltr plastic box with lid).
The pumps I am using are not expensive items and the total cost has been less than buying one large complete system. So it suits my needs well and hopefully suits the chams needs. It is not a high end system but does the job. I have just altered it here and there to suit the requirements so in some ways it is a bespoke system and is flexible in terms of how I use it, I needed that flexibility from the system.
I must admit it has been a very satisfying project and the biggest upside is the amount of time it now saves me each day. Much better than hand spraying! If anyone has quite a few vivs that need to be misted then I would highly recomend getting a system. I can give quotes for individually tailored systems if required _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
