Well lots of support thus far from folk on here but no responses to my add from any cham breeders. Secretive lot. Oh well never mind eh. To many dealers not enough actual breeders out there perhaps?

One would think even from a buyers and sellers point of view that it would be nice to be able to track and or ensure that what one is buying or selling is from good bloodlines and unrelated.

More importantly the sharing of information to help progress the hobby and help to conserve and set up breeding projects for the more rare species. One can but try.

Hi rick what do u think about may be some kind off tag, each breeder has there own colour tag to identify who the chameleon comes from like what birds have around there ankles also you could put your area code on the tag.

might work!!!

Hi Simon I am open to suggestions and would not , if this takes off, wish to dictate the pace, but after discussion agree on a consensus of opinion as to the best way forward, it should in my view be a collaborative effort and informed by all.

Even a basic paperwork or electronic form with a registration number that follows the cham wherever it goes. The form would contain all relevant details. Just an idea all ideas welcome and valued. cheers.

all good ideas Rick but how would you stop anyone just saying that chameleon 'A' is actually what it's suppose to be and not a replacement etc.

Chams are too delicate to micro chip and pretty much all look similar, would the bird tags work or would it be too late just tagging adults, after all that's a long time for the animal to go without proper ID before being tagged.

Also, as you've seen a lot of the actual dedicated reptile breeders rarely post on forums or get involved in projects like this Sad

Yeah paper work would make more sense than tags theres a chance off them catching on branches etc.
paper work would just be like a pedigrees form like a cat or dogs could try and make a make shift up and see how it looks, lots to think about on this one rick racking my brain all ready Confused Laughing

Don't zoos have a captive breeding record like for a lot of other species or is that just mammals and birds?
