Hey guys! We had a causaulty last Thursday, one of my Hooded rats (Talullah) eye popped out!

The other female (Ruby) we have in the cage was monkey swinging on the top part of the cage and fell on Talullahs head and out pops her eye!

We took her to the vets and they put a stitch in her eye to keep her eyeball in. We took her back today to get the stitch out and the STUPID vet wouldnt put her under to take the stitch out so he ripped her bottom eyelid in half, took her back and they had to put her under to fix it which they should have done in the first place.

So as you can guess i was SUPER pissed at the fact that the first vet neglected my baby!

Just wondering if anybody else has had the same kind of accident with their rats?

Anyway shes all fixed up and getting lots of attention so shes happy!!!

thanx Smile The nice vet we saw later told us her vision should be ok but she might have a little gap where the eyelid used to be.

yeh on of my rats had a similar prob with the eye popping out it didn't come all the way out just bulged quite badly. It happened several time, the vet reckoned the was a muscle weakness, he wanted to remove the eye, but by the time it got to that stage she was getting on a bit, so I didn't let him.

Thanks:) The vet told us that she shouldn't need the eye removed but we would just have to wait and see. She's only about 7months old so she got that on her side as well. Her eye is looking better every time I look at it, shes keeping it very clean and the anti-bio eye drops are helping tons, she looks like she has a zombie eye though!

My rat lived quite happily with it and died of old age nearly three I think the only reason the vet recommended eye removal was that it happened quite regularly
Hope your little one gets well soon and that its a one off.,

Hey! Her eye is looking great except a little kinda cloudy bit near the inside of her eye. I think its just scar tissue, so I'll just ahve to wait till it dies and falls off but shes eating and drinking fine. Her vision is returning to normal, she knows when your going towards her with the eye drops. All in all shes gettin better and by the way things are going shes going to keep her eye!
