hi everyone, i have a question of my own. I am going to do a bioactive substrate in my viv, and the top layer is hopefully going to be moss. My question is, does the moss need U.V to grow?? can it grow with just normal lights?

Hi Steph - I moved this query into it's own post as it wasn't relevant to the original topic. You will more likely get a response here. Very Happy

Moss needs (in most cases) good strong light to grow any or look lush..

UV might not be needed but a good bright high lumen bulb would be a worth while investment if you are planing on growing alot of live plants in the vivarium.

try looking at a 34w T5 light depending on the hight of the viv it should grow moss well with a decent reflector forcing light where you want it.

The only lighting my cresties viv has is a powersun self ballasted uva/uvb buld which is on a shelf about 3 ft above the tank.

It sounds overkill but its a spare which originally was meant to go in the beardies new viv which I havnt bought/made yet.

The plants are doing fine one has even grown new shoots/branches etc.

Sparx doesnt mind it either, he usually sleeps partially exposed to it during the day even though there are planty of places he could escape from it completely.

When I do get the beardie a new tank though im going to change to the T5 bulb is it? that has been mentioned previously.

im going to buy a little uv light, and just sit it on top of the tank. Are there any cool running UV lamps?
