|
|
Hi,
I've just found out that my two males who are housed together are actually male and female (now probed) and they have been mating for the past couple of days. I wasn't intending on breeding royals because I know nothing about it, so panic stations however I have since read up about it and have a few questions:
They haven't been 'cooled' over winter, does this matter, will this have a effect on the eggs?
And how long from mating will she ovulate?
Thanks for your time |

If they are getting night time drops naturally, this can be a form of cycling which will give results, but generally fertile eggs will not be produced without cycling. A guide for ovulation is 25 days from last observed mating, after this ovulation probably will not happen.
Best advice is too let nature take its course and make sure she is nice and fat in case the big day arrives. They will probably mate a good few times over the next few weeks. If you have a spare tank a good rule for a male is 3 days mating then 3 days rest.
If she ovulates an incubator will be your next worry.
Mixing vermiculite to the right water/vermiculite ratio is mindblowing without having someone show you.
hope gives food for thought
