She's gorgeous! Do you keep your mellors in flexariums?

Yes I do, I find they like a good air flow and the flexi vivs are nice and large, well the big ones are Laughing Being large vivs thye also allow for multiple basking lamps and basking sites.

I think you need to hire me to help you look after your lot Rick Smile

To be honest I could do with about another ten pairs of hands to help out. But I am in a lucky position where I no longer am employed, my choice, so I can dedicate everyday to my herps.

It will be interesting to see how her CB offspring develop compared to the WC and CF Melleri that are imported. Sadly the WC and CF Melleri never tend to do well in captivity and if they reach adulthood this is a rare thing. Hopefully with CB babies that have been produced by Bristol Zoo via a, I believe seized customs gravid female last year, and my own CB baby Melleri then the future is bright for more CB UK Melleri which has got to be a good thing.

I have kept back a group of 5 offspring and they are thriving and developing well.

Admittedly as with all herps they originally have to come from the wild. But if captive breeding programs are successful, and there are enough fresh bloodlines then who knows what the future holds for true UK bred Melleri.

CB herps are well known to be more robust then their WC counterparts.

When I bred the Melleri I had an overall good response from fellow herpers. Sadly on a couple of forums I was berated for selling them at prices in line with with wild caught and in some cases maybe £10 above WC CF prices(no way could I have kept 75 of them they do grow rather large). Without being to political, in my view this attitude just showed the ignorance that exists within the minds of some folk. You simply can not compare a WC or CF to a true UK CB. Sadly I think the response I got from the minority shows that some folk will chase the cheapest deal and are not bothered if this means WC CF as opposed to captive bred. How often do true CB UK Melleri become available?

There is a place for WC and CF, fresh bloodlines are indeed needed at times to prevent inbreeding and weak bloodlines, so please dont interpret my comments as being totally anti.

Hopefully in a few years time we will see more UK CB Melleri, in turn the prices will lower to probably the £90 - £100 mark at retail. They are a stunning species to keep and will reward you with a steep learning curve and amazing behavioural traits that are a joy to observe.

People were berating you for selling them at similar prices to WC? Shocked
Anyone with half a brain would pay more for a good CB then for a WC animal. But then most people most of the people complaining don't have a clue what it takes to breed reptiles, all the time, money and effort involved. Sometimes its like they expect you to give away the fruits of all your efforts. Evil or Very Mad
Beautiful Mellor btw, one of my favorite species. If only I had more time Sad
There were some very nice young animals for sale at Hamm, could have been CF, but I didn't check. People selling them were Czechs I think.
