Hi Guys,

Ok the news so far -

I wasn't present at the vets, but it went like this

The vet had a good examination of Webster and decided to give an X-ray to find out more, and also probe webster to find out the sex.

Sex - Unknown.... the probing caused far to much discomfort so the vet decided to not carry on with that process. It must have been a lot of discomfort because webster just doesn't give a monkeys what you do at the mo. The vet does feel like this is a girly lizard though.

X-Ray - Absolutley backed up to the hilt with muck! apparently you can see in the X-ray just how constipated the little beast is. so much so that the vet couldn't tell if there were eggs or not or if there is anything else up at the mo.

Enema - a finger + other bits and bobs = cleared a fair lot out. A stool sample is being done either this eve or in the morning to find out if there are parasites/worms involved.

the end result. I will be receiving a copy of the X-ray in my email box very soon - and i look forward to posting it as soon as it arrives. I will also receive a phone call from the vet either tonight or tomorrow regards the results of the stool sample. From there we decide what happens.

My fingers are crossed that the enema managed to dislodge whatever was stuck and all will be well, perhaps a few worms would be the worst#. I will know more later - damn i hate waiting....

I will post again the moment i have the X-Ray and heard from the vet - whichever comes first.

Speak soon....
Darren

Hi again,

As promised - a copy of websters X-ray.

His head is at the bottom of the image and the X-ray was taken from above, you can see the mass that has backed him up all around his left had side (right side on the photo)

Can't see any eggs - but who knows yet! The Vet will be calling me tomorrow regards the sample.

thanks for the update, so what course of action did the vet suggest, the poor thing certainly looks full to bursting point.

Hi Scott.

For now, she/he has had an enema to try and loosen everything - may need another. Webster has tried dumping a few times tonight already, only a little so far, but at least the trying continues.

The vet took a sample of poop to test for nasties and will call me tomorrow with the results..

you tried putting it in a warm bath? not too deep, make sure it can keep it's head easily out of the water.

Yup - last night webster had a good soak in the tub. Tonight while out of the viv on the usual sheet and log i also took the litter tray out of the viv - his bath - and a good soak in that was had, as well as a little more liver, just a couple of pieces to try and get things moving again.

Time will tell.

Hmmm poor little bugger. Might be worthwhile trying to flush him through with liquid parrafin as this may 'lubricate' his gastrointestinal tract. The vet may suggest this anyway Wink The vet I used to work for would use it to 'ease' the movements of many animals and I have personally used it on bearded dragons and iguanas Smile There aren't many animals that can hold off on a big steamer after they've had a mouthful of the stuff Laughing Good luck anyway.

Darren, you should never probe a monitor. Sounds like your vet hasn't had much experience with monitors.

Females have hemiclitori, which can be everted like hemipenes. Monitors also have much more muscular tails than a snake, so probing is not only uninformative, but potentially dangerous in the damage that can be done.

If your vet had moved the animal forward a few cm for the x-ray, you may have been able to see if there were any ossifications in the base of the tail, characteristic of males of some monitor species.

I just heard from the vet regarding Websters stool sample.

Roundworm and Toxidia were found. Were off to see the vet again tomorrow for a couple of injections and another scan - just to double check if there are eggs or not - also prob have another enema.

All in all, things looking good and starting to get sorted...

Had my fingers well crossed - hopefully no eggs now Very Happy
