I'd suggest getting a rake and a sack, then looking for some oak trees.

You may just need to position your basking light closer to the basking site rather than but a higher wattage bulb, you can create basking surface from 120 to over 200 deg with 60w par 38 floods so you should not have a problem with 100w. As crocdoc said get yourself a temp gun (ebay for £15) so you can measure the basking spot accurately, DONT GUESS!
