Hi- I have a few different sorts of reptiles and have been interested in getting a Chameleon for a while. I have heard though that they do not last too long (4-5yrs?)- is this true or does it depend on breed type you get? Iguanas are cool but know they can get massive, so am looking into Chameleons- there have been some amazing pics on the internet i have seen of ones with big crests on their heads with amazing variety of colours. Can you keep them indoors, as I know their housing can be a mesh type, as supposed to solid wood or glass like others. Any information would be great, thanks, Ratmolfe

Yemens or panthers are probably a good choice for a beginner. Males can live for about 5-8 years, females about 3-4 (because of the toll egg-laying takes).

Main thing is to do loads of research before you commit to one.

Research, research, research!
I've wanted a Chameleon for about 5 years, bought books, read articles, asked advice and still don't have one! Hmm, maybe I'm over-complicating things...might get myself a Chameleon... Very Happy Laughing Wink

a male Yemen is a perfect start for a chameleon fan, Big, Bright & colourful.

Males are longer lived and present fewer potential problems.

Life span, average 3-4 years, max 10+
