How long could a royal live in a contico (hatchling box)?
Can more than one live in a single contico box?
if so what size is required?
Are there any online sellers of conticos?
What is the best substrate to use?

Also on a different note can 2 heat pads be plugged into the same thermostat (obviously with extra sockets added)?

can stay in small box for a few months if eating well, you will know when to put in bigger box.

Better to keep seperate, easier to feed and less stress etc.

you can use as many heatmats as you want so long as the wattage is not greater than the thermostat.

start small contico, then medium then large. If feeding really well you could go from small to large. large conticos will do upto 1500grm.
I use 50 ltr really usefull boxes for smaller adults and Komplement(ikea) boxes for larger.
Medium contico is about 16 x 11 x 5.5 inches. If royals are grown on you could start with this size box.

POssible to keep together but lots of possible probs.. E,g, both try to eat the same food item. I know a guy who kept burmese together. One liked chickens but the larger female did not. SO he fed the one that liked chicken without seperating them, one day the larger female decided she liked chicken. when he came back into the snake room the 12 foot female had the head of the 8/9 foot male in its mouth. It was a massive walk in enclosure so he went in with a walking stick and used it to lever open the females mouth and pull the male and what was left of the chicken out.
The scars healed nicely after a few sheds.
you could seperate them but royals often will not feed if messed with.

Its better to be safe than sorry I would use a couple of mats o a 100watt.
best is 600watt pulse stats.

Unless you are fortunate royals can be a pain. Make sure the ones you get are eating defrost easily without much messing.
I have bought some hogs and a corn so I can enjoy snakes without loads of grief.

I kept two normal females together for 2 years with no problems at all.

How i fed them was to take them out of the viv and put them each into thier own shoe box with a mouse. Once they had eaten they would go back into the viv together. My viv is 6x2x2.
I recently have changed to a rack type system and one has stopped eating.
I am going to change back to a viv system very shortly and these two females will go back to living together.

There are pros and cons with them living together and you will be told loads of reasons why not to but the choice is yours. In 15 years non of mine have ever eaten each other.

Its all about opinion and youll make the best choice for you.

best kept apart except when when breeding,
If space is a problem go for racking type system.
Generally the rule is not too big a space.

I kept mine together because all i wanted was the two.
My large viv is in my living room and is a feature and didnt want two vivs. Although you should see the state of my living room now looks like a pet shop!

This discussion has gone on as long as ive had snakes ( 15yrs ) and it will forever, each to thier own.

Boooger -- where do you get a 6 ft tank??? That's fantastic. Lol, yes, I can imagine your living room!! I had two of my snakes in my kitchen the last few weeks, for added warmth. (There was a cold snap over here last month.)
The hognose was on the kitchen counter, and whenever she was out of the ground she would watch my every move. She must have watched hours worth of cooking....

Obviously your tank is custom made. Is it wood? Did you do it yourself or did you hire a carpenter? In the case of wood, you can't really use heat mats, right?

I think it's charming to keep two snakes together, but I would be nervous about something happening. In the pet stores the royals are always snuggling together under some log, and it looks real cute, but I don't know... If any snake can live this way it's probably royals.

i got the 6ft viv off ebay. Its 2 parts, massive storage underneth. all in all its almost 7ft tall.
And im letting it go. It was fine when thats all i had but now it just takes up too much space. In the same area I could house 12 royals !!! So its just gotta go. Ill dig a pic out of it and post it here.
