I'm wondering about this too. I've always kept leopard geckos until recently, but these are fine for one/two week holidays providing you leave them with enough water, I'm not sure how crested would cope though. I'll only be a away for a week this year, I think my cresties should be alright (what do you think?). If it may be a bit dodgy I can always get my old neighbour to look after them, he got me into reptiles in the first place anyway
5 weeks is quite a long time, I know you can organise with some pet shops to look after your herps for you, it just depends if you trust them & they know their stuff If you know someone who keeps herps that would be better _________________ Steve P |

I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving any lizards more than 4 days. If you can't find a friend or neighbour to take care of them (after being shown properly!) then you will need to find a reptile shop that will look after them.
A lot of reptile shops will care for your animals, obviously they will charge, also make sure there is an agreement on what will happen if they die or escape while in their care. _________________

yeah my closest reptile shop is a bit dodgy, i don't really buy anything from there, only crickets really, so i don't think i would like to give my crestie to them. I would if it was something more common like a leopard gecko or bearded dragon, but they probably don't know anything about crested geckos.
I might try and see if crystal palace reptiles will do it for me, they seem to be quite good with herps, and they are one of the only places i have seen that sell cresties.
If i don't find anybody, then i will have to look for somebody i know to come in. i need somebody to come in anyway to feed my cat and fish, so i should be able to get someone. I will just freeze the food and then get whoever comes in to just thaw it and place it into the tank every 2 days.
thanks for the ideas

I guess I'm lucky in the fact that I have a brother come and house sit so he can look after my reptiles and other pets while I'm away.
With luck you'll be able to find someone to come over and look after yours for you while you're away. They're pretty easy to look after and as long as you leave some instructions I'm sure they'll manage to look after them just fine. _________________

i write out clear instructions on how to look after all of my pets and label all the enclosures. My snake is ok and does not need feeding. I had to ask a different person to look after my pets the last few times because the person before kept getting everything wrong. She put fish food in a an empty tank (which was labeled 'empty, do not put ant food in here' in big letters), which meant i had to clean out an unoccupied tank which took me an hour. She fed all the fish the wrong food, gave the newts flake food which clogged up the filter completely and gave the guinea pigs water in a bowl and didn't fill up there bottle. She also gave the guineas lettuce which you cannot feed them. All my fish were healthy when i left and i had 4 dead when i came home one of which cost me £25. it was a total nightmare so i sacked her
The people who have done it the last few times are very good and we have had no probs. You just need to ask the right person _________________ Tom

I've trained my older sister up,she's a complete legend and the only person I would trust with my beloved, she got two kids and drives 16miles round trip every other day when I'm away which to be honest isn't very often. |

I dont go on holidays anymore
Would be nice to get a break but its a question of finding someone who I could trust to look after them. Especially the baby chameleons. Plus most times something is usually gravid and about to lay eggs etc. The worry of leaving them would not enable me to enjoy any holiday and I would need a break to recover from the stress of the worry
I would gladly pay someone very well to look after them but its finding someone who you can trust to have free reign in your house and over your collection whilst your away. Its just not practical for me to send them off to a rep shop for a holiday period and I am not sure I would feel confident with this anyway. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
