Hi,
I know I always seem to be asking questions, but I would rather get things right first time, hope you dont mind.
Can you keep hatchling royals in a plastic viv with just a heatmat or do you need a full viv with heatlamps etc?
many thanks.
Katey x

The quick answer is yes you can.

* You want a container that is secure - contico or really useful box are good as have locking catches.
* Need to put vents in to ensure fresh air movement an keep humidity at 50-60% (can get little metal traps that are supposed to go in kitchen sink plug at asda for 50p and these are spot on for the job, need 3 - 1 2 melt the holes with and 2 to fit into them.)
* Heat mat wants to cover 1/3 - 1/2 of the base of the tub and be controlled with a matstat or similar.
* Want 2 hides in there, 1 in hot end and 1 in cool, a rock to aid with shedding and a water bowl - position according to humidity - warm end for increased humidity and vice versa.

Hope this helps. Wink

P.S. Can get pics of mine if you want them.

Great thanks.
We have corns who live in normal plastic tanks, but wasnt sure if royals needed something more sophisticated. We will be getting round to custom made viv's, but at the mo have to stick to the plastic variety.
Thanks so much for your help. Very Happy

Whilst they're fairly small better off with em in tubs as they're secretive and like to feel secure in their environment; my 18" female normal is in an 18litre really and shes happy as a pig in sh*t. I'll wait until shes a fair bit bigger before I introduce her to my male in his viv.

Our corns are in tanks which are
18x12x6"
14x9x6"
Ive heard lots of ppl talking about litre size but ours only tell inches Embarassed
How do you rate royals temperament wise? Our corns are great, but we did have a king who was a bit of a sh*t and bit everything that moved. Evil or Very Mad

I don't think you can really beat royals temperament wise, you can get the very occasional biter but overall they are 99% trustworthy.

Got to agree, both my royals are tame as puppys, got tagged last week but only through sheer stupidity with my 18" female! Embarassed
