Obviously the sheer variety of royal morphs appeal, why wouldn't they?! Also, the chance that your hobby can potentially pay for itself through breeding does too!

Anyone got any general tips for me to get into breeding royals cos they'd be much appreciated! (don't wanna attempt and mess it up!)

I've heard talk of the 1000g mark for females to breed but not having a royal of that size wondered how long does it take for females to reach that size? 2, 3 years, 4?

hi Jase, I'm far from experianced with royals (even though I have 250+ Embarassed ) but overall they appear to be easy to breed if the basic principles are followed (night time temp drops during the winter etc).

As for getting females up to size, well I would say that it IS possible to buy a CF baby royal in April and have her hit 1100gs by Dec of the same year. I said captive farmed as they are available a lot earlier than most CB so it gives you a few extra months growing time. 1200gs is easily achievable within two years although there will always be exceptions with many females going off feed for a few months at a time.

Overall aim at a minimum of 2 years for a female, males on the other can breed from 4 months Shocked Wink

Much less light over winter months also helps.
