I'm venturing into the world of breeding my monitors, having bred other species before, and I'm wondering what's best for the monitor.
Should I separate the male and female after she shows signs of being gravid to prevent him from harassing her.
If I have a trio, is it safe to keep the 2 females together whether they are gravid or not.
Freckled monitors from what I have read prefer to nest in hollow logs. The clutch is then removed and incubated at approx 84-86F - however I can find no mention of humidity.
Is there anyone that has bred this species before successfully that can shed any more light?
Regards

hi
i breded the tritis orientalis last year. after a few weeks of seperating, they started to corpulate and after 4-5 weeks she tryed to digg, but because i havenīt seen the pairing and so one, i havenīt much supstrat in the enclosure. but the one egg that i could found was fertiled and the little sweety hatched after approx. 110 days with 29 degrees. hopefully this will work this year ,too. of course i havenīt seperat the man, but as far as i could recognize, he havenīt stressed here. regards martin _________________ keeping: Varanus:

Thanks, a few people have now advised they don't separate the pair and have had very few problems.
Do you recall what humidity you incubated the egg at? |

Thanks - I've seen the thread about incubation problems so I don't expect there to be a definitive guide beyond the act of mating. Will try it the Ackie way the first time around as you suggest. |
