Well I have a crestie and started it off on pure CGD but it only used to eat a little and I thought it might just be eating enough to keep itself alive which I didn't like the thought of. So anyway I mixed up some paste of banana, pear, CGD and Nutrobal and froze it. Now I just break off a chunk and defrost it and put it in the tank in a bottle cap. Most of it gets eaten.
And maybe once or twice a week I feed it a couple of lobster roaches or waxworms.
What do you guys all do? I thought this could be helpful... |

All my Cresties and Aurics are on neat CGD and my Leachies have neat LGD and pinks. They all appear to be doing very well on these diets,it can take a while to get them feeding regularly but I think it's worth sticking to.By adding baby food your diluting the goodness of the ingredients of these complete foods. |

Each to their own I guess, I don't mean this topic to be one where people say that the way somebody else chooses to do things is wrong but just a way of seeing all the different choices people make.
But to answer you I was under the impression that in the wild cresties will eat bugs and rotten fruit etc. Which is what mine gets as well as CGD and Nutrobal. I'd rather it ate lots than just a tiny bit. |

I know what your saying Phil but know mine or on it they eat alot, not just little lick but a good jar lid full every other day. They actually eat more know it's not mixed with anything but it did take a few months to achieve,I would feed insects but my misses hates them and If I don't have to It makes it all the better, that's why I'm only keeping Rachs at the moment till I get my own herp room. |

i alternate what my cresties eat. some nights its pure CGD, then others its babyfood with supplements, and then i throw about 5/6 crix in each viv for them to keep them active.
i tend to notice that not much of the food offered gets eaten, but they prefer to eat livefood. i will always offer them livefood a couple of nights a week, but i want them to eat a bit more CGD or supplemented baby food.
it seems with mine that given the choice, they want the livefood first, and not much liquid foods. |

also,
ive noticed that the crix in the vivs seem to feed from the CGD bowl, so maybe the cresties are still getting these nutrients in the guts of the crickets? |

i get around half a banana, and then i mix it with some water, and 2 teaspoons of cgd, and then i freeze it. He normally eat only a few licks, or so it seems , but this morning when i checked his food, he ate 2/3 of the food i put in his bowl, which i was planning to feed him over 2 nights, so he obviously likes this. Also i tried feeding crickets to him, and he sometimes eats them, and i will try and feed them again tonight. |

Mine never seems to turn down live food, nor CGD to be honest, he is quite a little gannet.
I usually alternate each feeding with livefood and CGD though, sometimes he gets both _________________ Steve P |
