Although I'm not a huge fan of the boiga irregularis usually, I quite like the night tigers (banded tree snakes), and the Katherine form (or candy cane) are without doubt my all-time favourite colubrid. Found only within the area of the Katherine Gorge, near Alice Springs in Central Australia, these great little critters are quite rare in private collections over here, as unsuccessful breeding programs to date mean that the only specimens on the legal market are wild caught on permit. We've had a female on order with the NT govt for about 12 months now, but no luck as yet. We have been offered an adult male that is absolutely stunning, & we hopefully take delivery of him late next week. He is the last pic in this series.
We've been trying to get shots of our sub-adult male for around 12 months, but anyone who's ever tried to get shots of a nocturnal colubrid feeding knows how much of a challenge that can be! For some reason known only to him, he decided to put on a show the other night. Straight through his water dish at near on the speed of sound, he ripped his pinky out of the tongs & proceeded to down it in 5 minutes flat! This is the first time we've ever seen him feed. Enjoy.
The soon-to-be-new-arrival:

WHAT an expression!!! real comical ,would even be worth keeping a colubrid just for that. _________________ we all have the spark of divinity within us, but are we responsible enough to use it? |

Great pics, Boiga are really "different". Great snakes. Would be great if we could get that morph here. I might even have some myself
Cheers
