Went to see a mate of mine who bought one of my hatchlings as a pet from May 2004. When I last saw it I could not believe how much it had grown in a year, it is not even 3 years old yet and already 6.5ft when it hatched it must of been around 10 inches and weighed 35g approx. Its the biggest panoptes panoptes I have seen although all the ones from my line are extremely large, the father is now over 6ft+ although was only about 5-5.5ft at the same age. I can see this animal getting well over 7ft believe me its massive in the flesh and not overweight either. Anyway took some pics its shedding almost all the time at quite a rate so its still in rapid growth mode. Is this a giant gene? I remember FR told me that the largest monitors he saw in Oz were panoptes panoptes.

Took some pics of a salvator local as well.

No he as no interest in breeding, it's a pet to him and that's all.

In the flesh it looks much nicer, lime green in colour.

Sean, that's one impressive panoptes! I just wish we were allowed to keep them here in Victoria (oh well, we are allowed crocs as a compensation Very Happy )

If FR thought our panoptes were big, it's a shame he didn't get a look at a mature male perentie! Although they dont have the bulk of the panoptes (they are lean speed machines, kind of like an overgrown gouldii... no offense to any other perentie lovers!) there is certainly not many things more impressive than a perentie running down a rabbit & tearing the burrow apart to follow it down it. Their nickname "the racehorse monitor" gives an idea of just how intimidating this speed can be when you realise they average around the 8 foot mark. BTW, Victorians aren't allowed to keep them either Crying or Very sad
