just wondering what peoples views are on best food, mass produced foods/ specialized foods. one of my bosc seems to be growing quite slowly. had it around a year and a bit and it seems to grow slowly. it's now only about 15". i'm feeding it what i would like to think of as a more natural wild diet, with plenty of dusted insects and a couple of mice a week but it just doesn't seem to have grown as much as the others/ as much as i expected. any ideas welcome? |

I only feed whole pray items. My Abligs have grown from around 14" to about 48" in a year on a stable diet of chicks, locust and mice. I feed as many chicks or mice (but more often chicks) as they will eat in one sitting everyday. I also throw a bag of 50 adult locust in with them once or twice a week. Don't worry about a juvenile monitor becoming overweight. It is impossible to overfeed them when they are growing. Just keep um hot and feed um allot!

my bosc went off insects for a while and would only eat rat weaners but he's eating bugs again so he gets a big tub of earthworms a week from the tackle shop, a rat weaner and chicks. i was unsure about chicks at first but i give him them more often now, as they control his appetite a bit better without him getting too fat. They have advantage of being reasonably priced aswell. |

I don't feed mine everyday but he is demanding it more and more. The key to keeping a bosc healthy is ensuring he gets plenty of exercise rather than limiting its food, as it'll only get grumpy and unhappy. |

Our boscs get an insect diet such as locusts, large crickets, snails, earth worms, morio worms, cockroaches etc and a mouse as a treat occasionally (say every couple of weeks or so). |
