OK no doubt it's on here somewhere, but i can't seem to find it or piece it together.
getting ackies to breed really is what I'm on about. whats the best way/ what to supply them with, or do they need cycling like some frogs i.e rain chamber or heating up more in this case. or is it just like a normal Australian life - cooler winter then bloody hot in the summer?

any ideas. sorry if this has all been posted somewhere else but i can't seem to find it

Try bloody hot all year round and lots and lots of food, Its all about offering a range of temps with monitors from say 60f to 140f or higher, if u give them a range of temps and lots of food they will chuck eggs out like mad as long as u have a sexual compatible pair the problem lies in the nesting and incubation of eggs not getting the monitors to breed in the first place.
cheers
Chris

you want to watch with the 140+ temps though, body tissues begin to dehydrate past these temps so you'll need to provide plenty of humidity and easy access to cool places. Personally, i wouldnt ever use higher than the 130's, just to be on the safe side, particularly, and i know this may seem silly, if ur using a thermostat to make sure it doesnt get any higher, cuz if ur thermostat blows, and believe me they sometimes do, your going to be eating baked tegu for your tea (which i must add, some african resteraunts do serve monitors and tegus on their menus and apparently theyre great lol, just like chicken)

I personally like to experiment with my bulbs and heatmats and whatever to get the right temps that arent going to overheat drastically so then i dont have that worry of leaving it and possibly blowing and frying my reptiles. It happened to my friend and he lost some of his dearly loved pets thanx to a faulty thermostat, so to me, bulbs that are as close to the temps you do want as possible are a must, not just any bulb wattage cuz its controlled.

Didnt want to cause a fuss or anything, i feel like ive gone on and on lol.

hey thats cool. do you need to put any special egg laying substrate in at all?
like vermiculite or just a hot humid area?

i always read u should try to imitate termite mounds but i dont have clue if its the same for tegus or what a termite mound is like, though i think theyre quite sturdy. Couldnt be positive on that though.
