Hi

Upto today, my ball has been tame as a kitten, nice manners, but today he struck at me as i passed his viv, full on mouth open strike.

Ive has him 5 weeks and he shed a couple of days ago and has been pretty active since, also he is due a feed tomorrow.

Could this be the reason?

Thanks in advance

A

Over keen on food, this is a good thing.I have snakes like this, when I want to pick them up I usually just put a snake bag or towel in their face each time so they get to no it's you and not food.

Thanks for the replies

Im 99% it was a feeding respose, the way he struck, a full body lunge and also i offered him a mouse today and there was no messing, he was straight out and munched it.

I was just a little surprised seeing him behave that way, poor snake was starving! ( despite a hefty mouse every seven days and a crib that P Diddy would be proud of)

Is it common for royals to be a little naughty post shed?

Cheers

How long since its last feed? Was it eating while "blue"?
To be honest it's nice to have a snake that is so keen for food/fiesty, the last thing you want is a snake that needs to be read sonets by Shakespear in order to get it to feed Smile (Trust me I am willing to try anything some days Evil or Very Mad )

Try cutting down on the "bling" royals tend to be more Rock or easy listening than Rap Laughing

It had been 6 days since he last fed and he was eating while blue. Ive not had a problem at all with Irwin, he came with complete records since he hatched and i swear i should have called him Dustbin cos he eats whatever i put in front of him!

I kept Garters previously ( Underrated in my opinion) but i handled Irwin one day and fell i lurveeee, i set up his tank 2 week prior to getting himand everything is stable, had some great adcive from another site too.

My guess was that he was hungry and thought my hand was food, carnt blame him!

He also likes John Legand and pop culture, the fine arts dont appeal to my gorgeous boy Razz

hi
How old, big is it?
What size, weight is the mice?

1 mouse every 7 days for an adult is not really enough food(if its an adult)

If for e.g. its a 1000grm royal I would look to give it at least a 90grm rat (or 2) Razz a week or same in mice. most mice are between 25 and 35grms.
let us know
mike

Little update

My boy is now 277grams,and 8 points Laughing i weighed him on some very accurate weight watchers scales!

The last weight i took was when i first got him so he has put 75grams on. Since he is a pig i have been advised to move him up to rat fluffs, every 5 days, i gave him his first last friday and he munched with gusto - the upshot is, he is now back to his mild mannered self.

Anyway, a little pic, he was about to shed , so pretty dull, but very handsome now in his new clothes!
