Hello Scott, i am looking to buy a cresty from you, but i am unsure of how i would get the cresty. where are you, do i have to come and pick it up?? If not, how do i get it. Also I am wondering if people can comment on my future set up. O.K i am going to use and old 20g fish tank. It is 75cm long by 40 cm high by 30 cm deep. Will this be ok for juvies??? My equipment will only be a red ight view heat bulb, and a thermostat to keep the correct temps. is this ok? Also last thing, if people can post pics of their set ups, just for ideas, that would be great
thanks Steph

Hi Steph,

I courier out 99% of all the cresteds I sell, they travel fine and I've not had a single problem.

With your set up, make sure the bulb can not be touched by the geckos, probably easiest if you have the bulb outside the viv.

The tank size you gave would be fine, just be carefull on what lid you use, cresteds sometimes spend all there time around the very top of the viv so it needs to be escape proof and also allow you to see them too.

the BEST crested vivs in my opinion are the Exo Terra glass vivs with mesh lids, a 45x45x45 being fine for up to 3 cresteds, even better if you can buy the next size up.

thanks for the reply Scott, i will make sure i have a cage around my bulb, also when i have more money, i will buy the exo terra 45 x 45 x 60. But that will be later on. I don't really like the idea of them being couriered, but seeing as most people on this website buy from you, i probably will go for it. could you pm me a picture of the best crested from group a, b and the single coloured ones too please.

Also i forgot to mention, i will be using the repitle carpet thingy, looks good to me and you know the fake trees and plants you buy, how do you put them in the tank?? are you meant to bury the trunks in the substrate??

Steph

don't worry about courier delivery for reptiles, if they are packed correctly they will be 100% fine, that goes for almost ALL reptiles.

Just be carefull with the guarding, sometimes that even more dangerous as they are able to hang on to that and still burn (as opposed to bulbs that they normally just drop straight off from).

Do you need the extra heat? My cresteds are kept at 70f during the winter and a max of 80f summer, perhaps a small heat mat stuck to the outside wall of the tank would be better?

I'd go for a 6" x 11" (or similar) size heat mat, stick it OUTSIDE on the backwall, then make sure you have fake plants etc so it can hide up near the heat. A mat stat thermostat should do the trick, stick the probe on the inside where the heat mat is. Set it at around 88f (as a surface basking site)

i talked to this women at the reptile shop, and she was telling me that the heat mats don't get hot enough for the tank to over heat, meaning i won't need a thermostat. Also i asked how do you put the fake plants and stuff in the tank??? do they have a weight to hold them on place??do they stick to the wall?? and also like i said above, could you send me a picture of the best crested in group a, b and one from the single coloured please.

I'll have to sort photos out after the weekend.

The woman is Right AND Wrong...the heat mat certainly won't over heat the cage's air temperature but the surface temperature of the mat itself can get too hot for most reptiles. Therefore a thermostat is needed to make sure they don't get thermal burns from the surface of the mat, even through glass Wink .

Double check it if you like, set the viv up with the mat stuck to the outside, leave it a few days and then check the surface of the glass temp.

As for your plants, no idea, all fake plants are different. the ones I use are just wedged in the viv and not attached to anything. Just make sure you don't use sticky tape, this noramally peels back and ends uo sticking to the reptile inside.
