well i found the tub of worms which we bought a few months ago. They were still alive but absolutely tiny!

I put a few in there and he was straight out and eat them. Seems he does like worms then. I'll just have to get him some bigger ones.
He has some dusted salmon in there now.

When I did put some live fish in his bowl he was never interested. They only died from jumping out of the dish but then he didnt eat them.Possible because the substrate had stuck to it.
Speaking of substrate, what does everyone else use for garters? He's due a complete cleanout and im thinking of changing the substrate. I use dry eco earth at the moment but I find as soon as he pulls food of the dish the substrate sticks to it.

Superb news! Cool Gives the wee guy a bit of variety.

Was he WC do you know? Some locales are predominatly amphib eaters, so he may not associate fish in his water dish as food, however the smell from cut salmon is too good to resist. I bet you'd see a different reaction if you were to drop in a newt.

Substrate-wise I use a bed of dry eco earth with a layer of damp sphag moss on top. I also use tubs as hides so they can get off the damp moss whenever they like. They'll always get small amounts of substrate stuck to their food (unless you use paper) but for the most part they can handle trace amounts..but if it's a real concern perhaps feeding outside the tank is the best option. Smile
