I just found this forum (thnx kristina for the link on your mailinglist).
Regarding sexing and determintatign these species it can take some time before you can be sure. Some times it took me almost 9 months before the males got there spurs so I could see them. And then there is few literature with exact details on determination.
On the other hand maybe it's good these are dilepis or gracilis and not senegals, ase those might turn out to be even a little harder then those two species.
In the end I think nobody can tell you for sure which exact species/subspecies you obtained. Most importend is you like and enjoy them. Only watching the future when you want to increase your group you might encounter some more problems.
further I wish you good luck and a lot of fun with these animals!

Thanks for posting Steven. Do you have aceess to a guide that gives clear identification methods for the various species? So far mine are not showing signs of spurs, and are approx 7 months old. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

hi peter,
there is no complete guide which tells you for sure.
you first need to know from which country they are. And then the best is to wait untill they are about 1 1/2 years old, so full grown and then maybe you can tell.. but it's very very hard.
That also was one of my problems with keeping them! |
