Can anyone recommend a good feeder fish for my wee water monitor?
I wondered if guppies would be ok, or is there something better? |

I think most live fresh water fish carry some nasty parasites. Stay away from gold fish in particular. You could go to your local Chinese market and get some whole shrimp, cray fish, crab and some whole frozen fish. My Water and Doreanus both love shrimp and crayfish! They are also very rich in calcium and vitamins

I only used saltwater fish for my watermonitor just to stay away from most of the parasite and poisoning. Basically stay away from lake food and buy seafood instead.

only if you buy wild stock
most fish sold these days are captive bred.
would work out quite expensive in the long run. _________________ ULI |

Thanks guys. We had been advised to feed sea food sparingly because of the salt content, but the Chinese shrimp etc. sound good. So far he's only ever eaten livefoods. |

I offer all of my water monitors haddock, cod, squid, clams (razor, cockles, mussels ), sardines and sprats (oily fish don't have make a mess when they come through the other end though). I also give chopped raw shrimp and to the larger ones whole shrimps in shell.
I give fish as approximately less than 20% of the overall diet though, giving mainly rodents and chicken.
