|
|
Ive wanted some dendrobates azureus for a few years now but never been in the position to get any. Now I am thinking about finally getting some.
I havnt kept any amphibians before so my first question is!
Is it wise to get them as a first amphib?
Second
What type of tank is best suited? would an exo terra be ok? or would a fishtank type be better?
Oh and what size?
Any help/info is very much appreciated. Like I said I have never kept amphibians before and I cant wait to start.
Thanks

Azureus are not a bad frog as a first dart. They are fairly hardy and tend to feed well.
As a guide to tank size, I keep my two pairs in a 40" x 20" x 20" viv and they seem to have plenty of room so a 20 x 15 x 15 would probably be OK for a pair. Obviously, the bigger you can give them the better.
Temps should be around 20-25C and humidity between 75 and 90%.
You will need a good supply of fruit flies and other feeders as these guys can EAT
I'd suggest reading up on the frogs and the viv requirements and here http://dendroworld.co.uk/forum/index.php is a good place to start |

Unfortunately not Do think its a good site though answers a few of those what can I/what is available for type newbie questions - did for me anyway!!!! Phoned him up the other day for some advice nice chap very helpful. I'm somewhat distrusting of 'general' pet sites shops etc most of em will tell you anything to get you to spend your cash with them. Much prefer specialist sites/shops |

I agree it is not a bad site , if a little pricy, but by far the best place to get decent advice regarding Dart frogs in the UK, where you get the benefit of many keepers experience whose answers will not in anyway be influenced by a potential sale (much like here at captivebred) is without a doubt, www.dendroworld.co.uk
Lot`s of breeders on there too of many species. Private breeders are often the best way to get genuine healthy captivebred stock. It`s how I have got 90% of my dart collection so far. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD
