That's a blackthroat = HUGE! hahaha!
Well good luck with him. Hope he thrives in your care. Be sure to keep us updated on his progress.

I'm not sure what you mean about "type". If you mean locality i would guess he is from Tanzania, but its hard to tell.
He looks in good health from the picture, I cannot see any reason why he would not reach 5-6'+ in a couple of years or so. I would feed him as much as he will eat in one sitting every day. A juvenile monitor cannot be overfed if your husbandry is spot on. Some more pics would be helpful, of him and his enclosure, but he looks good from what i can see.
All the best

will sort you some out tonight, you say he looks like a black throat but he has more of a white throat than a black one. |

White throats have a very white throat and very different markings. The skin pattern, throat color and the yellow around his nose tell me that he is definitely a black throat. As i said earlier they are all the same under the skin and they are all classed as v.albigularis, there are not official subspecies anymore.

That right there is a Black Throat monitor, a subspecies of albigularis. In fact Mark Bayless, myself, and a few others were trying to get them reclassified as a full species status. There is much work to be done, before anything is for real. I one scale count is off.. or one strain of nRNA is different, then it will be kept as subspecies, and even possibly, more subspecies.
Your Black throat, looks to be lower Tanzania locale towards Mozambique. I could be wrong... but I'm not to far off. Mark told me a lake that yours looks like it is from, but i can't recall it.
Rick.... damn you! When you going to send me a microstictus? I need to contact you... via email.... send me a PM on the other site RP....
Cheers,
