hello
I have built an incubator using the following.

large Poly fish transporation box.
Dowelling to make a shelf.

17 x 11 heatmat on floor connected to a pulse stat.
I am in the process of testing it. I have put a box which is Similar to what I will use when I produce eggs(snakes not me).
My question is, what am I testing to get the correct temperature.
do I test the vercumulite itsself(put the probe in or on it?) or am I checking the air temperature?
Inside the egg box in the incubator the air temp is a constant 88.
Any advise welcome
thanks
mike

I always test the temp of the vermiculite just underneath the surface as it's in the vermculite the eggs sit so it's there the themps need to be accurate for incubation.
