Hi.
My male was under weight so I decided not to cool any of my Royals hoping he will keep eating and put on weight. Very Happy
I put him in with my female yesterday and they locked up Very Happy Very Happy
My question is should I not bother with the cooling cause they have already started breeding??

They were roughly locked up for 18hours and he’s just taken a break so I have removed him and will put him back with her in 3days.

This is my first every attempt to breeding any type of reptile.

Also should I keep feeding her until she refuses?

Thanks for reading.

hi
what weight is the male?
From what I have read in books etc and found out on this forum, they will mate any time of the year. BUT it is the cooler temps at night and shorter days which trigger viable sperm, and cause the females to fertilize the ova and produce eggs.
I have a daytime hot spot(heat pad) of 83-85 outside of the hide. this is from 7.30 in morning till about 5.30 in evening. the rest is between 75-78 surface temp. I have the rack covered with towels etc most of the time.
As for feeding, if you start cycling only feed small items about every 2 weeks.
hope helps.
Any one who reads this please advise if I am getting anything wrong.
thanks
mike

The male was just under 600g that why I didn't want to cool them...After I took him out of the females viv it did look like a bit of sperm at the side of his vent.
I saw on one of the big breeders website’s that he bred a male at 395g.

I'm going to have the male if for 3 days and out for 4 days so he'

I'm going to have the male in* for 3 days and out for 4 days so he gets plenty of rest...May even have him in less then 3 days if I see they lock up straight away.

Why start cooling If they have already started breeding?
What’s the difference?? This lead back to:

They will breed without cycling but from what I have read unlikely to produce ovulation and then eggs. is it possible you are getting a natural night time drop? but if you are wanting babies I would still cycle it is not too late.

Could do with all royal breeders joining in as this is info I have read and is my first year at breedin groyals myself.
cheers
