Can anybody give me an idea of how much poop my Rankins should normally produce in 1 go? She has only had 1 poop before (in 8 weeks) and it was only a small amount. Tonight she has been to the toilet and its immense, about 3 inches, (didn't think something so small could produce that). Shes been very quiet anyway now I'm wondering if this had something to do with it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. This is a big step in my education with her! |

She's probably exhausted, i think i would be if i droped one half my body length
Obviously there was some kind of blockage, not a nice job but can you disect the terd(technical name) to see what caused it so you can prevent it happening again. _________________ www.Reptilebreeder.co.uk

Just dissected it and it stinks! Couldn't see anything in there which would cause a blockage ie. no substrate or solid objects. Would a visit to the vets be a good idea or wait and see how she is? |

You could let her have a little soak in some warm water and keep a good eye on her feeding/pooing. as she may be ok now she has passed it. If you dont see any improvement in her then you may need to take her or a sample to the vets. _________________ www.Reptilebreeder.co.uk

Just an afterthought Jas. Ive fed her a few mealworms in the past week and she doesn't bask although the temps are good. Could this possibly cause the problems cos she isn't digesting the food? |

If it was undigested mealworms im sure you would have been able to make them out in the feaces. What temps do you have in the viv? _________________ www.Reptilebreeder.co.uk

32C (90F) under heat lamp 24C (75) at cool end. Didn't notice any mealworm remains in poop, and it broke up quite easily when dissecting. She remains an enigma to us, but that's why we enjoy it!! . When we 1st got her she was very naughty, always showing her little beard and threatening to bite us. But now she allows us to handle her and we've been able to handfeed her. We've only seen her eat on her own once. We put it down to brumation and she's also shed around her head. Are these all normal problems or have we got a challenging lizard? |

Sounds like everthings ok with the temps, Rankins dont normally behave like that but there are the exceptions, sounds like your getting her round though, keep up the good work. _________________ www.Reptilebreeder.co.uk

A nice subject over breakfast poop. When I examine my lizards poops I drop them in a nice hot glass of water and swizzle the poop around a bit.
I used to collect owl pellets from the woods and do the same thing to collect the wee mice skulls and stuff.
Just return glass to cupboard afterwards for an unsuspecting victim.
Beardie poop has to be the worst offender for being stinky, mind you one of my large male Panther chams can pass some horrid nasty things, yuk. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
