Hi Dave, yes it`s the moisture in the air that`s the important thing with shedding.

The large plastic lunch boxes with the snap on lids make ideal humid hides. I cut an entrance hole in the lid, sand the edges of the hole down, half fill with moss or paper towels even that are lightly sprayed , and hey presto. The snake can come and go as it pleases and also has access to a dry area which is very important.

Here goes again, had a major re-figure of the viv !! It now has lining paper on the bottom including over the heat mat, the humidity at the hotter end is now 60% and the cooler end is 70%, the temperature throughout is 24c. This is with the light off so am quite happy, with the light on earlier the humidity was pretty much the same but the temperature at the hot end was 32c and the cool end was 27/28c. She seems quite happy and is flittering between the hot and cool ends and she is currently sat on top of the hide and log in the cool end. I am borrowing an angle grinder tomorrow to modify some terracotta pots to make better hides. I also fitted a guard over the light to prevent any injuries.



Here she is in the cooler end enjoying a look around !! You can just see her bowl in the foreground.



Here she is at the hotter end, yet again being nosey !! In this one you can see the guard over the light.



Not easy to see the last one but here she is enjoying a laze around on the log in the cool end !! She keeps moving her head about, trying to find a comfy spot i guess, she settles for about 5 minutes then changes again.

Hope it all looks ok to you guys, any tips hints etc would be appreciated.

Shes due a feed tomorrow so hopefully that goes ok, should be a good sign as to her happiness. Should i just feed her in the viv and how long should i leave her before i handle her ??

my girl het is shedding, i dont know if the humidity is too high because she has only shed her head and the skin has come off??

would reducing the humidity making it drier help her to do it in one piece..

do NOT touch her for 48 hours after feeding or else she WILL regurgitate. it's not recommended, it's imperative. handling too soon after feeding can stress the snake out, and may even get her to stop feeding.

My adults in a rack were getting overly humid to the point they're upstairs and you can smell damp when you walk in the house but i've switched them to hemp at the moment (mkae sure it's NOT been chemically treated etc) and that sorts the excess and i think it's still humid enough but if not nothing a temp humid hide or tip of a water bowl in shed won't help. High humidity is detrimental as it can cause scale rots and respiratory infections, might be my luck but i've also found dials to be ineffective.

Hiya.

Can only tell you how ive been doing with no problems and my royals still like me after two years.

My humidity sits at 50 all by itself. When it comes time to shed i wait until her eyes are nicely clouded, and let her have a bath in my sink with luke warm water. She stays on my hands submerged and from time to time will go for a mooch underneath with her head. After about 10 mins of bath i wipe away most the water on her and return her to her viv.
By morning she has shed in one complete piece.

As for substrate half is wood chippins the other is a coarse sand ( like fish tank bedding ) However i dont feed my snakes in their viv i take them out.

Anyway, not saying its the right way, just what i do.
