most of the commons sold in the UK- usually about 4 different plecs, arent so much bullies until they get older, and its just their dietry requirements change from a more veggie omnivore diet, to a more carnivore:omnivore diet and they start to learn the trick of sucking off the slime coat off other fish.

stu- i never said i wouldnt pay lol! senegals are great bichirs, its just a shame they are the slowest growers and max out at 12" anyway, which eventually would be too small for an silver anyway. i like the long finned variety too

Laughing only jestiing with ya Ad..Whats biggest out of the polypterus? I was lead to believe senegals got bigger until I done some reading up after I got him Rolling Eyes As you say 12" adult with an adult silver would be a risk..are the ornates bigger?

yea i think they are 3 foot. think the congicus is biggest get to about 39". i'll have a look to check all the different sizes

well these are the maximum known sizes, but often smaller in captivity:

Upper Jaw Species- Upper jaw protrudes past lower jaw

(subspecies)P. palmas polli ('marbled bichir)- 14"(there seems to be enough evidence to promote this to its own species)
(subspecies) P. palmas buettikoferi ('buettikoferi' bichir)- 13"
P. ornatipinnis ('ornate' bichir)- 27"
P. delhezi ('armoured' or 'delhez's' bichir)- 14"
P. senegalus senegalus ('Senegal' or 'Cuiver's' bichir)- 12"
(subspecies)P. senegalus meridionalis- 12"
P. retropinnis retropinnis ('retropinnis' bichir)- 14"
(subspecies)P. retropinnis lowei ('Lowe's' bichir)- 12"
P. weeksi ('week's' bichir)- 20"
P.teugelsi(new species not described yet)
E. calabaricus ('Ropefish')- 15"-30" (Closer to 15''-20'' in captivity)

Lower Jaw Species-Lower protrudes past upper jaw
P. endlicheri endlicheri ('saddled' or 'red' bichir)- 32", possibly more
(subspecies)P. endlicheri congicus ('giant' or 'congo' bichir)- 39"
P. lapradei ('Lapradei' bichir)- 24"

*There are only 3 known examples to exist and they are in museums its possible
this species is extinct.
