Where abouts did you go on holiday? It could quite possibly T. mauritanica or another smaller Tarentola species... _________________ Regards James Stroud |

I was in Spain. There were lots of them running about.
I Googled images of T. mauritanica and apart from the size difference they looked fairly similar to some of them.

They look much more like Hemidactylus turcicus to me, which is widespread in southern Spain.
Cheers,

I would've gone with H. turcicus As you say T. mauritanica do look similar but tend to be larger and darker, the Hemidactylus generally look more transparent _________________ Regards James Stroud |

I was given a pair of geckos a few weeks ago and they look identical to that, there about 3.5 ins long and lightning fast.
Been searching the net for the last month now trying to identify them, it would be very helpful to no there scientific/common name.
Cameras on the blink so i cant post pics. |

OK, I've had another look and changed my mind lol.
It is definately a juvie T. mauretanica. If you look at the adhesive pads on the undersides of the toes, they reach all the way to the end of the toe. In H. turcicus, they don't, they stop short leaving an exposed claw.
Cheers,
Mark. |

Lol.
They all look so similar. I think i cant say it's one of them. Just not sure which one.
I think it was a young one there were a few running about. He was probably one of the bigger ones we saw but could still be just a baby.
