Possibly a question that has been asked before several times over the years....but does an aggressive 2 month old beardies become an aggressive adult beardie ???

Having kept Rankins for a while (with the addition of 2 more this morning, thanks to Jas Very Happy ) I decided to try their larger cousins. Read up on everything I could find before taking the plunge just to make sure I had everything correct for their requirements and bought 2 females. Now these have been fine, no trouble at all (so far), but picked up a young female from fang-tastic reptiles a few weeks ago and she is completely different. Lovely markings, great beardie but with a major attitude problem.

I've just got home from work and thought I'd feed the collection before I tried to get some sleep. Put my hand in the viv to change the water, next thing I know I've got a red-gold hell spawn hanging from the fleshy part of the palm of my hand !!!! She'd attacked form the other side of the damn viv !! No warning, just straight from the area under the basking lamp to my hand..don't think her feet touched the floor once.

Now will this get better with age, worse, or stay the same ? Like I said my other females are fine, it is just this one Crying or Very sad Shocked

Never heard of a BD actively go after someone, new little handled animals tend to flare with open mouths and only bite if you go to them.

Your best bet is to handle it alot to try and tame it down, offering lots of treats while doing it.

She should tame down, but she might not.
Good luck...

Bri, my young red phase female used to be a bit like this, not quite so offensively as yours but definitely aggressive. Fortunately after I had grown her on I was able to introduce her to the rest of our beardie family and she quickly settled down, shes still very hyperactive but now handleable and much more friendly.

Must have a couple of ADHD beardies, have to see your vet bout some Ritalin! Very Happy

Good job I bought a shed load of locusts. Looks like she is going to be getting quite a few over the next few days if I'm going to try hand feeding her to get her used to me again.

Glad you like them Bri Smile , we dont keep beardies but i did have a baby rankin that we bought about 2 year ago that would display all the threat postures, gaping and flattening the body every time i went near her but she still never bit. And two years later she still does the same thing every time. Confused
Like whats been said they are lively and skittish sometimes when young so she may well grow out of it, just keep an eye for how she acts with her cage mates.
