My question is do the likes of this only heat up to 92 as that appears to be all the numbers go up to but i hear of people saying a BD basking spot should be 105-110
are these different temp scales
or are there ones that go higher |

Most people I know move the sensor for the stat away from the heat source until the preferred basking temperature is reached. Not sure if that's the favoured method, but it certainly seems to work. |

would that deopend on the outside temp?
right under the light would still get a full heat as it is so close but away from there where the sensor is, a cool from outside viv could affect the temp as its only getting a lower heat radiation from the light? |

Yeah, I would imagine it would depend on ambient room temp staying consistant. As said, it isn't something I've tried, but any room I've seen it done in has had quite high ambient temps. |

All depends on what you are keeping in there.
For bearded dragons I would set the probe mid way in the viv and then set the thermostat to 85f (double check by placing a thermomter next to the probe). This will then give a safe ambient temperture but will also allow a basking spot a lot hotter than the 85f ambient.
Also to increase basking temps you decrease the distance between the animal and the spot bulb. My monitor vivs allow the lizards to get within 4" of 60watt spot lights. They can then choose to go very close to the bulb (normally early morning or after a good feed) or further away (normally while sleeping).
You can decrease the distance by using simply rocks or cork bark at an angle under the heat source or by using Basking Platforms. _________________

Your confusing the surface temps(basing spot) with the air temps. placing the probe too faraway can bring a vivarium up to lethal temps.
Scott hit the nail on the head about decreasing the bulb and its distance from the surface, as well the mid range probe. |
