Just wondered if there is anything we can do to help make the UK reptile shows bigger & better.

What you like to see there?

What puts you off going?

What would make you 'not miss it for the world'?

I'd like to see education aswell as sales. Some speciallist talks, some handling shows etc - just something to make it into a daylong event rather than just a turn up buy and leave type effort that we have now.

Even if animals arent for sale just taking animals for show purposes would be great so people can see what is available on the market and what is available if you know the right person.

What puts me off is the abundance of all things common, if i want to see corns, leos or beardies i can go to my local shop.

The market in the UK is too small to get big named breeders from the US so we should be encouraging our own influential breeders to come into the open more. I am sure that many of us know of people who have been in the hobby for years but don't embrace the internet and as a result new herpers miss out on the knowledge they have to share. It is those people we need to support and bring to shows so that experience can be shared.

1: I would like to see more unusual species instead of just countless corns etc. and more herp equipment and books. It would be nice to see more amphibs and inverts too.

2: What puts me off going is that i usually have to travel quite a far way away from my house to get to shows and it is dissapointing when the shows are just in small halls with not much variety in the reptiles being sold.

3. I 'wouldn't miss it for the world' if there was a wide range of reptiles and herp equipment for prices that are not ridiculous. A few venomous etc. display animals would be nice too.

I think a lot of shows meet points 1 and 3, the travel side of things will always be a problem though.

1. I'd like to see some more unusual animals, because the only places I get to see some great thing are at shows outside this country.
2. Distance from homes, Bread and Butter animals etc.....
3. Hoola girls. lol I wouldn't miss it for the world if there were educational talks on, and some events involving the animals. I don't mean a crufts for large monitors and tegus lol. But for those of you that have been to the outdoor show at the NEC for instance, they have scheduled shows and talks on throughout the day, so people will hang around longer for those and generally will see animals they may have missed whilst waiting.

what do people think are the main differences bewteen UK shows and Hamm? (excluding the 10'000 people thru the door...lol)

If you took out all the tables selling the same animals as displayed in UK shows, how many would you have left?

maybe a venomous room, fiji iguanas, a few of the high priced balls and a selection of wild caught animals.

I think it's just the shear volume of traders at Hamm that make it seem that much more special.

take Daytona for instance, other than new ball python morphs and new albino or hybrid species...I don't remember seeing anything that I haven't seen in UK collections.

You may have seen them in UK collections Scott but to be fair you've been around a while, people just starting off get unindated with the same species as in the UK wild caught animals seem more frowned upon then in Europe. I never remember seeing anything at a UK show that has made me want to buy it immediately Confused
