Pastel is a co-dominant gene. That is, in heterozygous form you get pastels, and in homozygous form you get super pastels.

If you breed a pastel to a normal the odds are that you will have 50% of the offspring being pastels, the others being normal - if the law of odds works for you on the day!

hi and thanks
so I am right in saying that if the snake looks normal even though it was from a pastel normal pairing (the normal looking offspring) will not carry the pastel gene??
Only asking because someone is selling normals as het pastel from a pastel/normal pairing.???
Phew
thanks

below is on the website
http://www.viperandvine.com/id1.html

CB05 Royal Pythons: Het. Pastel.
JAPANESE IMPORTS

£95

I have been to the shop and everything appears to be spot on. Easily the best reptile shop I have visited in person. they probably just (like me before asking )dont understand how the genetics for pastels work.
Glad I asked my credit card was nearly out at £95 a throw. thought it was to good to be true. Still sure to be lovely snakes.
thanks
mike

I'd probably go with ignorance then rather than trying to pull the wool over your eyes!

Might be worth asking if it was a typo or something?

Hi
Can a normal looking pastel carry a simple recessive gene for pastel??
Or is the animal from normal to pastel breeding one or the other.
see below for why.

CB05 Royal Pythons: Het. Pastel.
JAPANESE IMPORTS
SIMPLE RECESSIVE GENE
SHOTO BLOODLINE

thanks
